The Depths of my Beauty
Through my lens, I am honored to capture and witness the depths of beauty. Some may see imperfections and witness the scars of life, but these women show us how to embrace the perfect skin within. This series allows me to expose hidden gems.
The Depth of my Beauty: Vitiligo (vit-ih-LIE-go)
Vitiligo is a disease that causes the loss of skin color in blotches.
Meet Ariana
I started to see signs of my vitiligo when I was 10, but it would come under my eye & go away, it started increasing & becoming noticeable my junior year of high school. I felt devastated. I became so depressed & just felt defeated. I felt ugly & just rejected myself, and I pushed myself away from my friends & family. I wouldn’t go anywhere; I would wear hoodies in 90-degree weather, I wouldn’t look people in their eyes, I just was at an all-time low. But I started to accept my vitiligo about a year ago, but I came to terms with it more recently, like almost 100%, I still have my days, but I learned how to refocus, check myself, & pick myself back up. I learned to love myself, flaws, and all. This world is so materialistic, and they have this “ideal” definition of beauty, & I realized I don’t have to try to fit in that. I made my own definition; I’m born to stand out. I was born to live this life. I’m a walking piece of art! I love being an original in a world full of copies. No one or anything can tell me different. Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face; it’s about having a pretty mind, a lovely heart, & a beautiful soul. - Ariana
